    Whats needed for 7k redline?

I am going to do h/c soon and I want to have a car that I can cruise around at sub 2000 rpms, still get like almost 20/30mpg, and that redlines at 7k instead of 6k. Also I want to be over 400/400. What do you guys suggest?

Why do you feel the need to spin it so high?

Also...the stock bottom end won't like that kind of RPM.

Where did you hear that about teh stock bottom end?
I don't have to have it that high, but I think that with the right cam/ head combo that there would be a lot of power to utilize up there at 7k. maybe 6500 is a more reasonable goal?

    A few times from builders.

I would say 6500 would be great.
I spin my 402 to 6700, although the HP flatlines at 6300...so most of the time I don't ever see 6700.

RPM isn't necessary for power. The right combo will have a KILLER torque curve from 3000 to 6600.

The stock rods and pistons will be ok with good rod bolts, but for how long is the ? ARP rod bolts, forged pistons/rods balanced could see 7500 safely.

I'm cammed with 918 valve spring's and I'm capable at sustaining 6,800 RPM's as is but with pushrods and possibly valves, it should hold 7,000 RPM's. The thing is though there's not alot of reason to be that high because of the power curve though, unless your wanting to be able to shift directly into the middle of the powerband for third and fourth. The cool thing about it though is I can chirp the tires shifting at 115 because it sets me right into the powerband.

Thanks for the info guys, any other setups?

Yeah I like the idea of being right in the powerband..........any dyno graphs so I can see what you guys are talking about as far the #'s falling off on top end.

My car never stops making more power all the way up to 6600, thats the highest i wanted to spin it on the dyno so i'm not sure when it would flatten out.

And if you want to stay in the powerband a gear change would help do that.

Hand helds tend to be a waste of money.

Not enough control to really be effective.

yes, they used their very own designed handheld. while you don't get complete control over everything with a handheld, there are a few out there that do pretty well. i used to have the vinci tuner. used it to tune the wife's car when it had heads and cam. here's a writeup i did on it
