What is the max. lift with a 1.6 rocker

I have a 480/480 lift Comp cam in a 350 engine. I installed a set of 1.6 rockers to the heads which have a max. lift of 525.I'm I safe? I have run this setup for two years. Also what would it be with a 485/485 lift?

Well a .480 cam would have .320 lobe lift .480 with 1.5 rockers and .512 with 1.6 rockers. So your safe brother. On the edge but safe.

    .485 would be

    .323 lobe lift
.517 valve lift with 1.6 rockers.

Yes it should be safe. 1.6 ratio rockers with a 485 lift cam should get it up to around .510 lift, which is under .525.

Not to get off topic, but we covered your lift, the better question might be your seat pressure and rpm's.

If it's not revving past 5,200rpm's 1.6 rockers are a waste.
    There.

Well we answered the question already. I am also worried about valve float.

I would need cam instal deg. duration at .050, lobe lift and rockers. Exact type of heads, engine displacement, compression height, type of pistons, before I made any judgements.

I try to keep things simple, Do you see why?

just outta curiousity if his springs are good for .525 lift does all that other stuff really make a difference ? does that effect the .525 lift spring besides coil bind?

That was going to be my next question. And how do you figure out the lift using a 1.6 rocker.

    Lobe lift x rocker ratio = gross valve lift. Example: .477 1.5 = .318 [ lobe lift ] .318 x 1.6 = .5088 [ gross valve lift ]

Thats the question i was asking.. installed height and seat pressure are what determines spring capabilities and coil bind ,thanks for the 101 ,, just sticking the springs in the head does not mean it will handle .525 lift ,, should be "setup" o/p..

The heads I bought are vortec heads that came already setup for 525 lift cams.Like I said I have been running this setup for years. But was always worried about my cam lift with the 1.6 rockers. So if I am not going to see 5200rpms I could have saved my money. My max rpm from low is no more than 4800.rpms.

Yeah, there is alot of stuff that goes into a biuld. But I am a "HEADS" guy. Meaning I biuld an engine around a set of heads, because you want to flow optimum for your heads, there is plenty of more depth to it. But I personally love the vortechs, they make great power HP and TQ I would say there is no reason to not take it past 5,500. So I recomend a comp cams P/N cca-12-212-2. That will flow your heads to there potentional. It will take a 406 to around 5,500 and a 355 to about 6,000... If your scared stay on the porch, jk. You'll have a little rumble, but not bad and start making good power around 3,000 in that 350 it will start making noise 4,500 you'll be considering letting off and at 5,800 you'll need to change your shorts.

I don't like throwing around peak numbers and such, but if you have a properly matched carb, intake, headers, ignition system and a good tune. I think you would be more than impressed.

Yeah jay37 thats a great setup ,, I have ran those heads and they work great with the combustion chambers cleaned up and bowl work done ... ive seen some nine sec cars on the unit with vortec heads and a good cam ,,, torque wins races !! lol
