what are your power goals for the cam? mild or wild? We need to know that before making a suggestion. A very common cam that will make good power that is not too crazy is a 224.

And no your stock y pipe will not work with longtube headers. You will need the matching pacesetter y. You can only keep your stock y if you get shorty headers.

with a cam swap a few things should just be changed at the same time. Pushrods are near the top of that list. You should at a minimum change pushrods, springs, and timing chain. Since the car is tore down that far an oil pump only makes sense. Sunday driver or not you bang the rev limiter a few times and you'll be changing pushrods anyhow. The stock springs are good for lifts up to stock. An LS2 timing change is $40 or less and an oil pump is cheap insurance to help avoid a spun bearing.

agreed, with any cam at minimum you will need dual springs, retainers, pushrods, heavy duty timing chain (ls2), and an oil pump (ported ls6 for example), bases (optional but i did them)...

if you want to know what a Comp224 cam, LT's/ORY with the SLP LM catback sounds like, click on the links in my sig...

i dare you to go that loud, and keep it that way...

Thanks for all the help i found a camkit for a $1000 is this a good deal. I can get the link to work but here is what the kit come with. A performanc cam with excellent mid-range torque and horsepower. Excellent power band. This cam has produced 409 rwhp in a 2001 F-body with stock cylinder heads. The cam specification is 224/228/114 0.578/0.578. Cam kit includes The Series II Dominator cam, Chrome Moly Pushrods, Manley Dual Springs, Manley Ti Retainers, Manley Steel Spring Seats and new GM valve seals. This cam can also be ground on a 110 or 112 LS. And again Thanks for all the help. Dustin

I suggest the cam kit from texas speed. Go with either the 224r or 228r and it comes with 918 springs plus moly pushrods for $600

Do you have an auto or a stick? I almost got a cam very similar to that one. I would see if they'll swap in the 918 springs for the duals. Might still save you a few bucks. 918's are plenty of spring for that cam.

if you want a smooth idle go 114lsa
if you want a choppy idle go 112lsa
if you want a rough idle go 110lsa

you will not see 409rwhp with that cam and no other bolt-ons...

a 112lsa would do that at idle if you set the idle after tune to about 850-900rpm. with the LM it will sound nasty! not sure if you clicked on the links on my sig i gave you but there are 4 clips i have two being my Comp 224 cam (on 112lsa) on the dyno with LM catback and then one of me starting it up and revving it with only the cam and LM catback. those would give you a good idea on sound...

    here's one of them...

    here's the other...

114 lsa works well with autos
112's work but can be a pain since its not manual

    each to his own though

114 LSA definitely wont sound stock but not as choppy as 112. Just dont want you to be discouraged from getting a 114LSA. you will still have a lope to it. but like said above 112 is definitely choppier and like said above 112 can be more of a tuning pain to tame.
