    what cam?

what cam should i go with on my ls1?
mods are going to consist of ported 799s,milled very minimal just to resurface
    nnbs intake, 92mm throttle body,
    ls7 lifters,
    double roller timing chain,
    melling oil pump
    etc
    of course full bolt on,

    3800-4400 converter,
havnt decided if 410s or 430 gears.

this is on my extended cab, weight im assuming is any where from 4300-4700

ls1 is going to be brand new motor, getting it completley worked over..

any opinions? im really stumped on waht cam to go with lol, cant decide.

    the only ones ive contemplated, is a 238/242 .605/.615 112lsa, or a ms3/ms4.
i know the magic stick cams from what i have heard lack torque, theyre more for upper rpm ranges...the fact that this is for a extended cab well im going to need torque..

not even srue on what this setup should run.

Is it going to be a competition truck or built for hauling?

Then in that case there are much better cams out there then the MS3/4's That design is over 10 yrs old. Not slamming it, just saying there are better, more up to date cam designs these days. A custom grind isn't much more over cam prices. Shelf cams go around $375 and custom grinds around $425.

Who is doing the porting on the heads? AI is one of the top places to go.

i was thinking of a custom grind, local friend of mine was going to do it, he is a well known tuner down here and has a respectable rep for designing cams. goes by the name of roadkill (edgar)

the porting as well, a local shop is doing it for me, porting, 3 angle valve job, resurface, and dual springs for 1100.

has done many respectable builds as well, and i s aold friend of my pops so i went with him.

i go the 799s and nnbs intake with flex fuel 36lb injectors for 400 so id say its been a good deal over all

yea, the cam im looking for has to be in the power band of 3k-6700 or so, problem is there is so many i dont know which one to go with...and i want a a choppy cam..at least a 110 lsa..just wanted to see if some body has run a similiar setup on a fbody, or any ls1 and what cam they were running, and times. so i can get a idea more or less.

these are the 799s and new body style 90mm intake

Thats the truck its going in, im going to lower it as well to possible a 4/6 with some cal tracks for a flipkit.

Dont have any pics of motor due to beubg at the shop, but will take some soon as i go and keep thread updated.

Any estimates of what it could run? No traction issues etc etc

Hard to say for me because of the weight. What transmission?

    I'd guess in the 12's.

I'd tub the back and run wider wheels & tires.

i actually plan too but later on, i want to mini tub it and run a 12 inch rim with a 6in offset out back. maybe a 18x12 would be perfect.

4l60e is going to be the weak link for sure. It's hard enough keeping one alive in the F-Body chassis once you start making some steam, never mind in a vehicle with an extra 1k lbs. Stuff a 4L80e in and never look back.

As for camshaft selection, I have worked with Geoff @ Engine Power Systems on every build that leaves my shop. We have had some awesome luck with his product. He tends to be a lot more conservative than most "gurus" in the sense he builds grinds with usable numbers instead of window-shopping peaks. If you need some help, let me know

Yea ive thought about the 4l60 being the weak link, but ive read they can handle about 500 or so well built. I dont think ill be any where near that.

I went with a built 4L60E in our car as I never intended to go crazy with the engine. I agree though that if you plan on upping the ante, especially with a heavy truck and sticky tires, that a 4L80 is the way to go.
