    I agree.

op, I'd say you probably got it in that pic you posted.

Why your engine would or would not have a damper is beyond the scope of my LS1 knowledge..

The damper is suppose to prevent the timing chain from loosening up or sagging from old age or abuse like constant high rpms. Cool thanks guys. After I get the oil pump on I can start putting my engine back together.

Yeah I know, I'm running both a damper and a spring loaded tensioner on 2 of my mod engines.

ive done nearly 10 cam swaps on ls1's and have never seen one with a t/c damper ive heard of some having one but wether thats true or not idk

fyi on the oil pump make sure that o'ring is PERFECTLY aligned otherwise your car wont build oil pressure and toast the mains

When you say perfectly aligned you mean that the o-ring and pick up tube are flush with the pump right?

yeah dip your finger in some oil and rub it around the o'ring so it doesnt bind at all when you put the pick up tube into the oil pump. and gently wiggle it till it sits flush then install the bolt and tighten it do not use the bolt to suck it up other wise it wont seal correctly

Okay cool, hopefully I will get the gears lined up tonight. The slot in one of the gears lines up with the keyway right?

remember not to rush it and rotate the motor over by hand a few good rotations before you even think about touching that key. i made that mistake on my very first cam swap and bent 4 valves and broke one in half

yup its easier to pull a few things off if its out of time rather then pulling the heads and fixing numerous other things because you just wanted to hear it
