    timing chain scare

So we where all being stupid the other night. we had a cavalier vs a neon. They where both going pertty hard. then the neon just stoped. He got out and yelled I think I broke somthing. We got it back to my place and his timing chain had broken. It fucked up some vavles. How common is it to have a timing chain break?

Now I am scared shitless about it happening to me.

Neons and Cavalier's werent meant to race. Couldnt even had been to exciting to watch.

If your near stock power levels, there is no worry that your LS1 timing chain will break. If your that worried, spent 40 bucks on a LS2 chain and install. Its not common for the chain to break at all with mild mods.

It was real funny. But I got very few mods done to my car but, it does have almost 120k on it. so its on my to do list.

If your ls chain breaks it won't bend no valves.

Don't know where you got that idea from, but if a LSx engines timing chain breaks, it WILL cause damage to valves and pistons.

wont bend no valves? double negative?

it will for sure cause damage. Cam will stop spinning leaving valves open and engine will still be rotating. =

if i read this right, it is the neon that broke, the neon should be a timing belt driven engine and it is an interference engine which if not maintained properly will break a belt and bend valves etc. not the same as a chain
