Timing Chain/ oil pump/ Cover clearance
I ordered a ported LS6 oil pump for my car and iv heard of several people using a double roller timing chain. So I got both. I installed the chain and when I went to put the pump on (has spacers), it cut a notch in the back of the pump when i free handed the engine around. So i just dremeled the oil pump for the clearance. But my real problem is that the the cover has nearly an 1/8'' gap because of the oil pump. Someone please tell my why and or how they got this to work. Im thinking of fabing a spacer out of aircraft aluminum and using a second front seal.

no, The oil pump is a Melling... I did some research and found that the Melling oil pump has a larger cast than the other LS6 oil pumps and wont work with a double roller, unless you grind out releafs for it. Iv decided to Ebay the Double roller and get the LS2 timing kit. Thanks Milkman for the info. Should have the engine in the car by next week. Ill put some numbers up when I get it broke in.

The problems lies in that over done double roller setup. IMO, that double roller is un-necessary when you have good options with a LS2,C5R and a few other single chain setups.
Search over at Tech on this issue, its pretty common. Persoanlly, I dont know what to tell you because I never had the problem but there is alot of info on it.

Pretty sure you have to shim out the cover...

-I agree, the DR is over kill for what im gona have, I didnt know about the LS2 chain untill after I got it and found out that it would hit. So no biggie, i just returned it and got the LS2.
-If I was to shim out the cover I would have a gap at the oil pan, along with getting a second front seal for the shim. This was my first thought. But id still have to grind more on the back side of the oil pump to get the pump to clear, and I just dont feel comfortable doing that sense in all reality I need between .07-.08 clearancs for the chain anyway.
