    Timing Chain maintenance

Just thought I'd ask everyone's opinion on this.

No where in the owners manual can I find information on the maintenance schedule for replacing the timing chain in my LS1 engine.

Does this mean that I do not need to replace the timing chain?

The only mods (that could be remotely considered mods) would be a Magnaflow muffler and a K&N air filter. Otherwise it is stock.

    Thanks

Timing chains last quite a long time in LS1 motors if properly maintained oil wise. Most change theirs when doing camshaft changes. Most then go with a LS2 chain. I'd say around 150000 miles I'd think about changing the chain depending on the life of the car.

The timing chains on these engines do not need to be serviced, they are designed to last the life of the engine. They are lubricated by engine oil and in theory should never wear out.

However, that is not to say they can't wear out. On engines that regularly see high RPM or racing conditions, the chain can eventually develop slack and need to be replaced.

Very nice. That was the information I was looking for.

I only have 95K on my car and don't use it to race, so I should be good.

    Thanks
