ticking noise
This is starting to bug the hell out of me.
I have a 222/224/112 cam with a 566 lift.
I have since developed a ticking noise on my valve train. Its not really running crappy or anything, its just annoying as hell.
I have the correct length pushrods and everything and the lift isnt big enough to be slapping the valves on the pistsons, so what else could it be?
It isnt something that happens all the time. Just every once in a while.
Does anybody have any ideas?
Its DEFINATELY coming from the top end of the engine, so my guess it like a loose rocker arm or something. Anyone have any other ideas?
Im broke as hell, so Im hoping its nothing TOO serious.

Are you running stock rocker arms?
Also can you narrow it done to one head or the other?Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

check valve lash clearence(top of stem and rocker arm) i rebuild my pa's 389 pontiac and put adjustable springs in, and i screwed them up had too much, that ticked, also check see what your oil pressure is because somtimes when theres insufficient oil it will make the tappets make clicking noises. goodluck

Def may be a collapsed lifter. In the past I have had 2 stick on me, and I poured a quart of ATF in the oil and both of them loosened up in about 5 minutes. I ran the car for about 2 more days and changed the oil. 25K later no problems. I am not saying it is the best fix, but it worked for me.

questions. when does it happen. first thing in the morning? does it go away when it gets warm? will it come and go as you drive? and is it rpm related, meaning does the noise speed up as you rev the engine?

Mine had the same problem. It turned out that one of the rockers must have needed adjustment. I loosened, then retorqued the rocker arms back to specs, and it went away immediately.
Let me guess, when you have something close beside the car, like another vehicle at a stoplight, or at a drive-thru or something, is when you hear it clearly. It drove me nucking futz until I fixed it.
