Texas speed 224R Cam Questions
I picked my cam today. Im buying it tomorrow as soon as pay day hits lol. Its the texas speed 224r with a 114 LSA. It includes new chromoly pushrods, and valve springs.
I have a few questions however. 1. Will I have to fly cut the pistons for this cam? & 2. should I get the 918 springs or the PRC Spring Kit? This is a daily driver and I will be adding the AFR 205 heads over the winter when Im not driving the car. Thanks for the help!

no, no need to fly-cut. should have gone 112 though. power comes in lower in the RPM band. im running a 224 .581 112lsa cam with Patriot Dual Gold springs rated to .650 lift. those are what you need. also suggest Ls6 oil pump and Ls2 timing chain. do it now since all that has to come off to swap cams anyways. extra security and strength and oil flow. 7.4" pushrods are what you will need (double check though), bases, seats and retainers would benefit you as well...
no need to flycut w/the AFR's either...2018 CTS-V: °°668rwhp/658rwtq°°
2013 ZL1: °°590rwhp/576rwtq°°

i cannot help you at all w/the sleeper sound. here is my car under the current set-up: H/C, FAST 90/90 LT's/TSP TD's w/dual SLP LM resonators. The poor sound quality is from the camera, not my car:

here is my old set-up, with everything the same except for ORY/SLP LM catback...
if you want to hear the car during its build-up, click on my name and check out the rest of my videos...

I ran 918s with my old 224/112 cam for years. Great lightweight spring. Get the titanium retainers as well.

Here is my latest dyno run/sound clip of the car from last weeks retune...
also, the specs on my cam are: 224/224 .581/.581 @112LSA...
there are quite a few 224 cams that have .561, .563, .581 lifts, respectively. hope this helps...

Well I the cam and its sitting in my garage awaiting install. My buddy gave me the T-56 he had built by t56rebuilds.COM for $1000. It was Built for up to 750rwhp.
He used it a few times at the track and crusing on the street. It shifts smooth as hell in his T/A so all in all I think Ill have a nice street machine when Im done. Now the next Obvious weak spot is the Rear end. That Poor 10bolts goin straight to hell when Im done with it lol!

Im gonna hold the install off untill I can do the heads and cam in the same shot. The transmission and clutch is my priority. Im a firm believer in a Strong drivetrain before you start cranking up the Ponies and torque!!! Id rather not break stuff every other week.
On another note I do have a Stock t-56 for sale now. Shifts fine, however you should probably buy a new slave cylinder for it. Asking $450 OBO will ship on buyers dime!. Im so pumped to get to work on this thing once the insurance repairs my drivers side door!!!!
My Mods include Kooks Longtubes, Texas speed and performance catted y pipe, Texas speed Rumbler Cat-back, K&N FIPK, and a Tune by one of our members named Frost @ Lsxtune.com!Last edited by Justin93; 09-04-2008 at 05:43 PM.
