    Stroking LS1?

I'm thinking about getting a stroker kit for my 02 LS1. I can't decide on the 383 or the 408. Do those require you to bore the block?

I always thought the 383 didn't require a bore, so I'd get that if the 408 does.

    Any info/thoughts/opinions?

for the 408 you need a ls2 or lq9(*sp) i know the ls1 isnt very friendly to stroking and there has been alot of problems with the 383s...you'd be better off buying an iron block 408.

What kind of problems do the 383 LS1s have? I'm not much of a chevy guy as my LS1 is going in my BMW. I don't really like the sound of an iron block as I would assume that it weighs more than the aluminum LS1, and weight is a factor in my BMW

And would it be easier to get a stroker kit and do it myself, or just order a 383 LS1/LS6 stroker short block from TS and swap everything over?

they do weigh more..but the power to weight ratio still improves dramatically

The stroked LS1's have issues. For some reason, their are clearance issues with the wrist pins.

There is a reason you don't see them that often.
A good machine shop can handle it though.

What are your mods? I see that you're past the 500whp mark. Did you go bigger, or is it a heavily modded LS1?
