So I'd like to get a cam...

I'd like to get a cam for my TA in the near future. You can see my mods in the sig...I pretty much have full boltons except for the ls6 intake, 160 t-stat, pullies and I was wondering if a cam would work well with my set up. I don't want to get something too radical cuz everything else is stock and it's my DD in the summer. Are there any other parts I would need for a cam swap? What brands are good?

I figure I'd spend around $400 on the cam this winter and pay around $1000 to have it installed and tuned next summer. does that sound right to you guys? It would probably be a good idea to get the heads Ported and polished, but I don't know how much more that would cost. This mod is pushing the limit with my college budget for the next year, so I was just wondering if everything could be said and done with for around $1500. I'd love to get some heads too and build the entire top end but I can't afford it.

Also, what kind of numbers should I expect? I'd hope to have over 370 rwhp.

a cam kit, instal and tuning is going to run you about 1500.
no need to port the heads.
youll want to upgrade to an ls2 timing chain also.
the 228/228 cam should fit the bill for what you are looking for.

Thanks a lot, i'll look into that stuff. Do any of you guys install your own cams? I saw a guide on ls1howto.com and i'd like to save the $500 or so if i could. It just looks like you have to be very careful with things and it's really time consuming. My friend told me when i first got the car that a cam would be great for it and that it could be done in the driveway on jackstands. But i don't talk to him anymore.

I heard that 918 springs and titanium retainers would help out a lot. Probably wont fit my budget though. we'll see how things go.
