smog legal cam
i have a 98 z28 a4 with 104k miles and was thinking of doing a head and cam swap. the only thing is i want to keep it emission legal. i live in cali so this is the strictest test as it is, my car just recenly passed the sniffer test, but i will be moving to arlington texas in about 3-6 months i dont know how strict it is over there. but ive been looking at many cams but none advertise smog legal not even the ls6. so my question is whats the biggest is can go while keeping is smog legal, i love hp and would go for the bigger bang for the buck like texas speeds magic stick #4. but i will also be driving it daily and ocassional strip and maybe some road course action

224/224 is about it.
And you need a great tuner.

if you want a lopey idle then go with about a 112 lsa bute driveability and idle quality wont be as good. You should go with about a 114 for good driveability and a little ore low end power. You would be good with a 224/224 .550 .560 cam on a 114

I thought 112 LSA power came in sooner than the 114 LSA and had a bit more torque.

Get a z06 cam / head combo. With tune should be pretty legal and will make some power.

Mine passed easily in Calif with a .221 with .566 Lift @ 114 LSA---In hindsight i could have gone slightly more on the duration like mayge .222 or .224--However I don't think any 112 LSA will pass--The more overlap the harder to pass---evry cam is a little different--most 112 LSA cams are pretty aggressive and have lots of overlap to push the HP up higher in the RPM band

[QUOTE=M6HUGGERSS;679643]i would call that a waste of time.
/QUOTE]
Would deff go with something better than a stock Z06 cam--After going thru all the truoble of a cam change--believe me you''ll be disappointed if you didn't go at least to a 221/221 @114---the stk Z06 cam i thnk has a 117 LSA which is the big factor in keeping it from making more HP--even though the Duration may be 212/218
