Don't do it at home. I made that mistake as a teenager. The neighbors call the Fire Dept. and told them our house was on fire. . . . . . lol

It will clean the cat or cat's out actually.

Yes ladies Seafoam "works"...but it is acidic as hell and caustic.....not good.....does it blow your motor up? No...but it does weaken gaskets and seals...no doubt.....AutoRX cleans better...I mean better....and conditions your gaskets and seals.....

Once you clean/rinse you keep a maintenance dose for the life of the car. Stuff works man.

    thread from the dead...

I seafoamed my ws6 a couple of months ago. It only had about 47k miles on it, but it had lost 4 mpg recently. I cleaned the maf and ran seafoam through the gas, the oil, and the brake booster line. The biggest debate seems to be about putting it in the oil. I drove it 100 miles then changed the oil. I guess time will tell if it weakened any seals or gaskets. But I did get the missing 4 mpg back, so I am happy for the moment.

I just seafoamed my "Meaty" (nickname :lmao) 92 Corsica. Brake booster and in the oil for 300 miles. This is the second time I have did it. First time, the car had 144,XXX miles, this time is had 176,XXX miles. I noticed a 1.1 mpg gain. Not much but every bit counts. I did 7 tanks before, and 7 tanks after to get a good honest number. It has varied from .9 mpg to 1.8 mpg so either way I gained something. Did it to my Maro before H/C and my motor was spotless on the tear down

Seafoam aerosol spray works great on my two-cycle stuff. I have freed seized pistons, and made a lot of carbs work again just by using it. On some four-cycle small engines it has done the same thing along with eliminating sticky valves.

Where are you getting this information about Seafoam being caustic, acidic, and abrasive?? There is no corrosive warning on the label, and it says it contains 100% petroleum only.

Carb cleaners like Seafoam are typically hydrocarbon based solvents. I don't see why there would be abrasives or acid in their formulas.

I would do it on a weekend then and just hit the freeway for 75-100 miles. I don't like the thought of it sitting on seals and gaskets myself.

Hell if you want to add something and leave it for a while I would just add a half of quart of ATF.

I use PP or Amsoil and change every 3000 in Maro and PP every 3000 in my DD (92 Corsica) yeah thats right, I run PP in my junk Corsica. With that being said, I run this once a year. You will get varnish regardless of oil

Respectfully, most of us have bought these vehicles used, and we don't always know how the previous owners treated them. A good cleaning may be warranted. Of course going forward we treat them with loving care...
