question about my comp cam

    question about my comp cam

    i just wanted to know if this is a good cam that i just had installed in my 99 ta it is a 238/244.586/612 114+4 lsa and i wanted to know what kind of heads would be good for it right now it has a 2800 stall that cam ported tb true duals 342 gears and 100 wet shot tnt i just dont knoe what else to do with it any ideas on heads and intake

    That cam is pretty big. I would think that you will need quite a bit larger then a 2800 stall like at least 3500 probably bigger. Since that cam has lift over .600 you should probably look into some ported 243's or if you want more compression look at ported 5.3 heads. And at least a ls6 intake or look into the fast 90/90.

    I do not have a cam or ported heads this advice is just from what I have learned from reading these forums. You need to do some research and make sure you match all of your parts and you will make much more power.

    yea i thought that the stall was kinda small to but that is what the speed shop recomended i get do you think i should trade my 342 for 373 gears would that help

    3.73's wouldnt really help with driveability issues you might have with that cam. Like the idle will probably have to be set pretty high and with a little stall you would have to be on the brakes pretty hard to get it to stay still. Also with duration that high it wont make power till it gets up a little bit in the rpm range so with a 2800 it might bog a little bit.
    If I was going to use a cam that big I would probably look at at least a 4000 stall maybe even bigger. I have a 3000 on a stock cam and wish I would have gone a little bigger.
