ported LS1 heads Vs. stock LS6

ok so if i was on a tight budget. say around 500ish. and i already have comp beehive springs and titanium retainers, but im lookin for a better flowin head should i go with a set of stock LS6 heads, or take my chance with gettin my LS1 heads "Stage 3" Ported, and get the stock valves backcut 40 degrees for 500 bucks through a company i found? i'm running a tsp 220/220 .588 114 cam. does any one have flow numbers of the ls6 stockers?

    Stage 3 LS1 Ported Heads

    241 Casting

(These heads are flowed on a 2" valve with no pipe)

    .300 lift (intake 218) (exhaust 177)
    .550lift (311 intake) (241 exhaust)

Heads are flowed on a SuperFlow 600 Flow Bench

Heads are ported at 28" H2O

    thanks again guys

Ported LS1 heads flow just under stock Ls6 heads. If you do a minor clean up of the LS6 heads, you're able to pick up +/- 10-20 cfm. I did mine myself and picked up roughly 25cfm. As long as you're careful and just do a clean up, you can get the better heads and do a decent port job for next to nothing on the porting side.

We put ported ls1 heads on a CETA (LS6 intake/cam/headers) and it topped out at 371HP with a tune.

    I'd def say LS6 heads

no prob. kind of, at school. haha
this teacher that was helping me with the mathmatical part of flow was telling me about how he made a flow bench when he was 10 and was telling me how to build one and apparently it's "super easy" but i got lost amongst all the engineer talk

Those flow numbers are BS. Especially for $500 and with cut stock valves. What shop is claiming this?

Oh, and Stage 3 usually refers to something designed for a 4" bore or larger.
