planning a AFM delete on my 07 Saab 5.3 same as trailblazer.
I am planning a AFM delete on my 07 Saab 5.3 same as trailblazer.
Been researching the removal/delete of AFM lifters.
Plan B
This appears to be a complete kit minus the gaskets/head bolts and 3 bolt cam. Why a front engine cover? Hows this look
LH6 L77 L99 L94 L76 LY5 LC9 AFM VVT Active Fuel Management Delete Kit 3-Bolt Cam | eBay
the folks at WS6store have a complete kit including LS9 cam /LS6 springs (unsure of valve seats/keepers/retainers/stem seals come w/ springs) for $810.shipped. this $810. price is from WS6store tech surport.I think it’s pieced together.
there isn’t the front engine cover.

Couple ?s
1.will a compression test reveal if the rings are stuck to pistons? if
Yes what is good PSI and what is rings stuck PSI? I’m thinking a broken lifters cylinder will be zero compression? w/ 152K on the clock should I just hone and rering?basicalley complete rebuild)
2.is a front engine cover (ebay link) required ?What wiring is required?
3.is it OK to reuse the original head/header gaskets? I have reused TTY crank bolts w/out ill effects.
Plan A.
After pulling head and find collasped lifters roller unscratched then most 4.likely cam can be reused correct?
If collasped lifters roller is scratched then I’m forced into Plan B?
5.What do you Guys think about simply swapping the collapsed lifter/s (4 for this side even though only one broke) w/ another AFM lifter on the one side of engine where cylinder one is
that will eventually fail again.
Like If another set of AFMs last 150K or even 100K I would be satisfied. However I need a reliable long distance vehical
This isn’t a racing car but mainly a tow vehical for my 3K LB boat.
6.if my failed lifters roller is in good shape will the cam lobe be OK to reuse this cam and just replace the broken AFM lifters?
I do understand ECM will require AFM delete tuning.
7.if I decide to upgrade cam w/ either plan will a performance tune be required for a smallish LS9 cam?
Plan C
Obtain a none AFM/VVT used engine
8.are these available?
If yes what donor vehical?
Thanks for any advice
