Oil pump replacement

Is absolutely neccesary to replace the oil pump and timing chain while doing a cam install. I've only got 55K miles and dont beat on it non-stop. I have heard the early ones like mine (98) have had issues, is there any truth to that.

I would recommend with an aftermarket cam you get a new oil pump. In fact, go to texas-speed and get the ported LS6 oil pump. Will provide you with an additional 10psi of oil pressure. Only 150$. As for a timing set, You cant be too cautious on getting parts that are cheap to buy but a bitch to install. Save yourself the hassle and go ahead and get a new one. No more than 130-160$ for a great timing set.

just did a cam swap on my friend's 98 camaro. reused the oil pump as it was working fine. and his has more miles than yours.
