    not knockin now...wtf?

a few weeks ago, i took my car to my dads house to begin the engine removal because it sounded like a bearing was knocking. I unhooked a few things including the coolant hoses and throttle cable and such. I called my dad last week and told him i would just come get the car when i move so i can remove the engine at my new house. So he actually put everything back together for me, except for adding coolant. I go there sunday, and start it up just for grins, and now its not knocking. I warmed it up a bit, but not to normal operating temp. Could it be that my oil just hadnt thinned enough to start knocking? or could the water pump have been the culprit and since there is no coolant in it, the water pump quieted down? The water pump doesnt have more than 5k miles on it. Also i noticed that it idles at around 1100rpm now instead of the usual 700-800. Thoughts?

Might be that the knocking you heard before was just common piston slap. Most Ls1's have it to some degree and it is normal. Ambient air temp when the car is started cold also plays a factor as to whether or not you hear it.

Drive it.See if the knock comes back. Rod knocks and lower end problems don't just go away.

Whats done to your car? It could be a noisy valve train if your oil is to thin. Run a ticker weight.

i wonder if you don't have a small exhaust leak... once the metal gets warm and expands it might come back and set off the SES... i'd let it warm up a bit and check...

Yea warm it up and see if it comes back. It might just have been your imagination. If it comes back though check all your rocker arms before you take the whole motor apart. The high idle may be a vacuum leak too.
