no cam or not to cam.. that is the question
i have a full bolt on 2000 z28 except ls6 intake which is in the mail.
car went 12.71 at 109,1.88 60' what will a ls6 intake and a 2800 vig stall get me
also i plan on a 100lbs weight reduction as well
i want to see that magical 11.99......will this get me there
OR will i need a cam, is this one good? zcam from crane cams 278/280 .551/.551 All i want is a nice mild cam that will sho power everywhere, looking for approx. 25hp out of a cam with a nice idle

black- 2000 nhra edition formula
an ls6 intake and 100 lbs weight reduction will barely get you 2 tenths.
to hit 11s, you will need a cam or spray the cam.
if you go the cam route, youll need nothing smaller than a 224/224 and some drag tires.2000 nhra edition formula
a few bolt ons, 379 rwhp
11.96 @113.25

Don't forget that your suspention needs upgrading as much as your motor if your headed towards 11s!

ok so lets say the weight reduction and ls6 gets me 2 tenths, that would be a 12.51, then swap my stock converter with the vig 2800, what would that be worth 3 tenths? with traction asumming 12.21, i wouls be happy wth that

oh and my 12.71 run was with the engine hitting the rev limit at 6500rpm for a split second, that may have been worth a tenth or two if it shifts right at 6000

When spending the money on a stall i found that you should just start in the range of 3600 or so because you will always want more! I currently have the Yank 3600 stall and i still want more, it will drive just like it did before. The olnly Diff. i noticed was about 250 rpm's more to take off daily driving which isnt too bad.
Just something to think about, im sure you will want more tho.

i do agree with you but what i am trying to do is have a dead hooking car when i mash the throttle
my 60 now is a 1.88 dead hook and i want to keep my stock rim size for that sleeper look. tires are 245/50-16 nitto 555r and if i do get a spin from the converter i can go to a 255/60-16 mt or bfg to solve the traction issue
what do you think the 2800 vig stall will get me over the stock 12 inch, i know they are 15lbs lighter.. i'm not trying to break any records here, but just want to put other cars in there place when i pull up next to them, if i can get 2-3 tenths from the converter i'll be happy

you will spin with the converter. i had 255-50-16's and a 3400 stall. Now have the 275-40-17's i can almost dead hook with it. i run the falken 615's great tires.

what are your times 1/4 and 60'
i've been looking for great ways to take weight off the front of the car to aid in traction
getting a fiberglass hood 30lbs, lightweight breille battery 20lbs and a bmr k-member a-arm and strut kit 80lbs sway bar 10lbs even the converter 15lbs
thats a total of around 140lbs off the front of the car, without sacrificing interior look, i can also remove the rear bumper support and under carpet for another 30lbs
i think with a nice little 2800 stall and these weight reductions, i still may pull a dead hook 60' if not then i will order up some mt 255's
also i have the 12 bolt which is more weight on the rear, tubular lower control arms and a bmr torque arm on order(my stock one bent)
i guess the only thing i can do is try this setup and post me results
wish me luck

Streetable Cam With A Wicked Idle
You are a prime candidate for Comp Cam's new Thumper series cams. I recommend the Mutha Thumper Series.

shoot at lest i know what it would run in the 1/4 but new parts are going on it soon so i am hoping for a nice low 11's
Long Tubes, Lid, smooth bellow, 85mm throttlebody, p&p MAF,3400 converter, tranny, torque arm, shocks struts, lca's, 3:42's, nos and Tune. next on the list: cam, stage 3 heads, ls6 intake fuel rail 42lb injectors, oils pump, chain. and of course another tune.
