Technically, you can use the stock converter for any setup. You just won't have good launches because you won't be able to get in the cam's powerband before taking off. But if you want a cam to stay in the stock converter's range, you'll have to get a mild cam. And you won't need new heads for a mild cam.

black- 2000 nhra edition formula
theres a few stalls out there that drive like stock and a person wouldnt even know the car is stalled.
i have a tci 3000 and non gearheads that have driven my car didnt even notice the way the car was shifting.
now for heads and cam, i great street/strip set up is a 224/224 or 228/228 cam with a 114 or 112 lsa. pick the heads of youre choice. youre also going to need headers to take advantage of the new set up.2000 nhra edition formula

red- 1999 Camaro SS
NHRA gave some good advice above. I have a few comments:
Heads: I recently installed Patriot Perf. heads, they seem to flow alot of air, the car seems very strong. Also, AFR heads are outstanding for flow, but are more pricey. There are a couple more heads that are highly thought-of.
Cam: A 224/224 cam should be very streetable. The 112 LSA will be a bit lopey, the 114 LSA will be more PCM friendly. Valve lift between .55 and .575 should be fairly aggressive. You will want to get new valve springs, maybe Comp Cams 921s, they are good for .65" valve lift.
Yes and get headers, I think they are a most for a good heads/cam car.'99 Camaro SS; 6-spd, LS2 402 stroker short block, PP stage 3 heads, GMS MAF, 244/248 cam, FLP headers, Borla catback, 4.10 gears, LS6 intake, 39#/hr injectors, Pro 5.0 shifter, subframe connectors, Comp Cams 1.85 rr,
Best ET: 12.23sec (2.000sec 60'), trap spd:117.5mph, with the LS1 engine.

What kind of power are you looking to make??? Maybe look into the gm hot cam, or one of LPE's smaller cams. That should work well with the stock verter.
