With new cam and ported heads....?

With new cam and ported heads, I'm curious what kind of gas mileage are you guys getting? If you could respond with your cam and head specs and then the difference you see in your gas mileage now. Thanks in advance!

the heads will make it drop a couple of MPG but the big difference is how big of a cam you have and who tunes it and how it is driven.

Also note a higher stall will affect your gas mileage too - often done with a cam (if A4).

On all motor a little over 400RWHP (Mustang Dyno)
With the new Nitrous...well over 500RWHP....
I do not want to mislead nor set any false expectations....I have a helluva lot more than Heads/Cam....Balanced crank/LSX Intake/KN CAI/Shaner TB/SW LT Headers/RT Cats/Borla Performance Exhaust/Valves/Springs/Rods etc. etc. And of course a dyno tune by the best in the business...Tracy at FIS....all that going through a TransGo shift kit/PI 3200 Stall/Harrop finally to Nitto Drag Radials....

Fuel Econmy tests on modified LS

I have two modified LS engine cars.

98 Camaro with 408 iron-block with big-port AFR heads, 11.25:1, 250ish deg cam, lift about .65, 113 deg sep; headers, cats and mufflers, good tune, 490/522 RWHP on fuel alone with cutouts closed/open,.

Fuel usaghe about 14 around town, 22-24 on the highway.

02 Z06: We've actually gone to some effort to test this carefully.

Engine: 427 C5R block, Patriot III heads with porting+polishing by Justin (flow 342 on intake), 225/232 deg cam with .594 lift, FAST90mm, 1 7/8 long tube headers, big cats, 3" exhaust, etc., and D1SC SC set for mild boost (5 lbs),
Very good tune for driveability and low-end torque. Max 565 RWHP/544RWT with cutouts closed, 595/550 with them open.

Around town I get about 19, on the highway, generally 25.

It gets very good mileage because it is a pretty mild cam for such a big engine.

Fuel Economy, by actual test, two way, using the cars "Avg Fuel Econmy" feature over 3 and 5 mile sections, two way average (usually several two-way runs averaged, except the 125 mph run, done only once).

MPH W AC off W AC on
    20 18 14
    35 26 25
    40 30 27-28
    60 29 26-27
    75 26 24
    85 21 19
    100 19 17
    125 15 13-14
