Green, for now...- 1992 camaro RS
Need some build advice
Hello everyone i have 5.3L ls motor im wanting to swap into my 92 camaro. i will be doing a carb setup with a t56 6speed behind it.
what i want from the car, 350ish hp and will be daily driven. just want something a little different than just a 350ci
my questions for you guys are related to cams.
right now it has the stock cam which if im not miss taken is 191/190-.466/.457-114
i dont want to build a track car but ive heard a z06 cam is a good swap for more power without sacrificing drivability. questions are; will i need to change push rods if i switch to a z06 cam (i plan on using ls7 spring and i have 862 heads on now)
ive also heard that you much change lifters with cams is this true?
and last but not least how much power do you think ill make with zo6 cam and carb setup?

Not sure about that cam with 5.3's.
I will tell you to contact Martin from Tick Performance. He help me a lot when shopping for my cam.
I would recommend getting either a set of 317 or 243(799) heads. Better flow over the 862's. FI guys love the 317's while the NA guys like the 243's (799's).
You HP goals are realistic, but why carb? Ease of set up compare to needing ecm...for fuel injection? The cost will be about the same for doing either setup.
I have a buddy that is doing LT to LS1 swap. It's not that hard to do, just requires sourcing some stuff. Like LS K member. Going to a 5.3 I believe you'll need to get one in order to properly fit the 5.3 block because they are based off LS1 engine mount locations IIRC.

Scratch my k member remark. I just realize you're a 3rd Gen so you'll need new engine mounts no matter what. So a proper length drive shaft is also need.
There's a guy on here that did a 6 liter swap into his 3rd Gen. I see if I can find the thread for you to talk with him.
Here you go. Talk with him. He's been down the road your on.

Sounds like a cool project. What's the budget?
