You wont have to change lifters, unless you just want to but remember to do lifters you have to remove heads. Now the timing chain and oil pump would be a good thing to replace while youre in there. Are you a A4 or M6? If youre an A4 then I dont really see you making 400rwhp cam only, but horsepower is just a number id be more concerned on how it runs at the track.

for driveability, a 228/228 could get you close with supporting mods. agreed, the timing chain and oil pump are a good idea. but i think a torquer v.2 would get you to the 400 rwhp mark. or you could go with the 233/239 cam (im a huge fan of that cam). as for springs, you could run 918's with the torquer but i'd probably say to spring for the double springs. the added peace of mind is worth its weight in gold i think. good luck with your build. what are your current mods too BTW

No need to change valves IMO. The horsepower difference from upgrading valves will be minimal.....additionally, you are trying to get to 400rwhp so I would focus more on selecting the RIGHT cam that will get you to your desired goal.

mileage of the motor determine the need for new lifters and oil pump.
