Need Help... Motor Knocking, Sputtering, Rough Idle
About a week ago, we got A LOT of rain. I tried to start it a few days after all the rain and holy smokes..... The car started right up but with these symptoms:
knocking
sputtering
idling rough between 400-1200 rpms
smells like it's running rich
Its throwing a code(s)
I hadn't driven her for about a week before all the rain; it was running fine. So where to start... Hoping that maybe I have moisture in the fuel system, I added gum out to it. The idling seemed to be a little bit better, but still very rough. The knocking, sputtering, and the surging idle still remained, but now it will stall out if I don't give it gas.
I don't wanna drive it b/c it's knocking. I don't have a scanner to read the code....
So.... Any suggestions/ideas?

Can you see or hear any sparks arcing from the plug wires or coils with it running?
Its sounds like something got wet. You might needs to swap out the spark plug wires and maybe plugs also if they got too fouled.

From your description I think you are saying the car was sitting while it rained??
If that's the case, I've heard some really strange horror stories about these cars and sitting in the rain.
Apparently there have been a few people that have had trouble with the rear hood seal letting water in, which as you know hangs right over the top of the engine. It also drains right over towards the computer () passenger side. Someone here reported the water drained on the intake manifold and somehow slipped passed one of the injector 0-rings filling that cylinder with water.
It can also get under the intake and play havic with knock sensors. Don't know if this is your situation, but the first thing I'd do is check the code/codes and it will give you a place to start looking.

Bringin this thread back from the dead...
Bought a scanner today and this is what it told me:
P0300 - Random/Multiple Misfires Detected
Makes sense to me giving the symptoms of the car. Some of you thought it might be one or both of the knock sensors, those of ya that thought so, do you still think so now? Think it fouled the spark plugs too?
I'm having it towed to a shop on Monday, hopefully it won't cost too much to get fixed....
BTW, the scanner I used was a Actron CP 9550 PocketScan Plus. Thanks in advance!

the knocking is what would concern me the most......is it a knock deep in the motor or does it sound like it's in the valvetrain? I'm not going to scare you by telling you what it sounds like is going on because from here I honestly don't know but the knocking definitely isn't a good sign.

Ok over the last few months trying everything i just started moving coil packs around and would be ok for a week. wires spark plug are new knocks are new so one of three things? bad spark? bad ground? or just have a tune on the car they will tell u more on wat u need, [plus im running a full ls6 swap so for me it could be a tune?

motor would be cheaper than a car but it depends on what works for you best. Doesn't sound like your a DIY guy so you'd have to pay for the install which would drive the price up considerably.

Read the thread again. He WASN'T driving in the rain. It was simply sitting in the rain. The best fix is a garage to park in.
