Wouldn't value mean the following: If AFR are the best VALUE(not just the best) then if you pay twice as much for them(appoximately)then shouldn't they have to produce twice as much power? Wouldn't this just be a HP/cost ratio? That is what value means to me..............

LS6 P&P it is!!! Don't you have to shave the AFR 205cc heads to get the best bang for your buck? I heard that from somebody...??

A lot of people are voting on this head poll, and don't have heads??? If they voted on a set of heads, I hoped they would have them installed and were speaking from first hand experience. Instead, I got a whole lot of hearsay votes.

Has anybody seen DART or TrickFlow heads on an LS1 and can confirm their performance?

I have a question on head&cam packages offered, I am looking to spend the least money if I could and get most hp in return. curious to see what the hp increase would be on each of the following packages:

    1. Precison Race Components Stg 1.5 5.3L Heads & Cam (1,899)
    or
    2. Precison Race Components Stg 2.5 5.3L Heads & Cam (1,999)

what would be the hp increase on each setup? am I looking at least 50-60 hp increase, or not really?... or what is your best estimate??

I would also have a 3rd choice, more money though, TSP Heads & Cam Package With AFR 205 Heads ($2600), I know they would be the best of the 3 choices but how much hp increase should this choise net me versus the previous first 2 choices?

here's the link to the choices:

I'm kind of new to the LS1 engine stuff , Thanks for the advise...

go to slponline.com they have a performance package that includes heads & cam set, THEY CLAIM you can reach 525 hp. That is awsome. I don't know for a fact if that is true, but i think that is what i am going to do eventually. if you havent already, I would get gears, if you can set them up yourself, that is the biggest bang for the buck. My stock gears are 3.42s and am wanting to go with 3.73 or 4.10 (don't know yet) plus if that engine is cranking out 500+ hp a stout rear end with lower ratios would make your tranny happy.

I called SLPonline.com and sure enough the 525hp head & cam package is the best,
525hp after you do a prof tune, else the guy said 500hp should be it,
I plan to take it to a pro car shop nearby and spend the 400 LS1Edit tune money after I do the head&cam swap. the bad news is I will do this next year since I got some other financial priorities like buying a house early next year, after that that would be
    2 paychecks (4200) I will spend on the 2.8k head&cam, 1k install + $400 tune.
Now the stock tranny should be cool to keep right? anything else I need to change other than shorter push rods I belive to accomodate the head/cam install?
    Thanks

Well, if your stock tranny is a M6, then you will be fine, your clutch wont!
If you have an A4, that thing will NOT be fine. Good luck.

If M6 buy Spec stage III or Mcleoud Twin Disk setup (mcleod the best)
if you have an A4 and want to build a drag car.... then throw that junk in the garbage and get a TH350 built to hell.

Ohh ya, you did not address the rest of your car.. Driveshaft wont last, rear end MAY, but MAY NOT. I would get a girdle for it until you blow it up and keep the launches at lower RPMs until you have $2200 to blow on a new rear end.

If $'s no object, I'd go AFR or ETP. As far as bargain heads go I wouldn't use Patriot. Many around here using the PRC heads with great results.

    Smile Head to use

I would go with the ETP. They are a top of the line casting. The decks are very robust (.800 thick). I have a set and am extremely pleased. I have a set I want to get rid of due to cancellation of a project that I have.

I don't think so. Not all of them anyways.

Either way...if they are AFR's...you will get MUCH better service buying them directly from AFR.
    SLP just sucks.

    Too bad.
I can't believe AFR went for that deal...to allow them to be called 'SLP AFR heads'.
Figures though....SLP can't make anything worthy themselves.

Get them from elsewhere. Anywhere else. That way you can have customer service if there is a problem.
And SLP isn't giving you wheel horsepower numbers. They are most likely bloated numbers as well...even for flywheel output.

My TSP 402 makes 600 crank....SLP has a head and cam package that claims 600 HP for their 402. I can't see that littler cam in there getting to 600 crank.
