Need cam advice
I have a 98 ws6 t/a . All I have now is a lid, filter, gears 373, and small converter , I have a a4. In the future I want to upgrade to full length headers, and duals. I will also replace the cam and intake. I need to run 12's! Without nitrous.
What cam would be best for me ?
I know I would need a tune also.
This will be a dual purpose car, I autox it and drag it.
When the cam is changed , what else should I change since the motor will be torn apart?
Thanks.

You don't need to change the cam to run 12s.

If you AutoX with it....you will probably want a cam that gives a nice flat curve.
I am thinking something like 224/224 580/580.
Get headers and a sticky tire and you won't need the cam to go 12's though.

I am only able to run 13.6 @ 104 now. I have been told it is a slow track. Do you think headers and tune will get me close? I want to stay away from drag radials unless I can find 2 rims for cheap.

Headers can knock off .2-.3.
Tune will probably knock .1-.2 off.
Some decently sticky tires and you should be there.

Sounds like a plan. Maybe this winter I will do the heads and cam and look for 11's!

I am not sure , how could I get an idea? It was installed by the previous owner when the tranny was gone thru. I do not think it is very big though.

Press the brake down as far as you can with the car in drive.
Press the gas with the brake down. How high do the RPM's go?
A stall allows more RPM when you leave the starting beam.

That is what I have heard. I will try that next time I drive the car.
So when the tires start to break loose at the rpm , would that be my stall?

Not a fool proof method, but basicly.
