Are they going to at least de-glaze the bores? If you trust the guy and he says not to use them... then I would go with that. No clue on viable replacements.

    Order more parts...yeah {sarcasm}

DSS Forged LS2 pistons 4.005" flat top with -5cc valve relief
SCAT I beam Forged Con Rods
    Total Seal piston rings

    $880 for all shipped.

I went with the SCAT I beams because this isn't a super HP build. From what I've read those that have been shitting all over SCAT is because they were building 600< blocks with FI.

Decking the block is a must with every build I do. I prefer to "zero" deck everything for a tighter quench. Tight quench promotes swirl in the combustion chamber which in turn creates a better burn, that swirl also combats detonation. End result is less ignition timing needed to make the same power.

You also get a more uniform compression ratio from cylinder to cylinder. I've had blocks where deck height was different from one end to the other. Possible this might not be common on an LS block, I haven't done enough to know. I'd like to think the casting process has gotten better with more checks and balances,,,,or maybe not.

Always nice to have a perfectly flat surface for those new head gaskets too...

Good decision on the rods. I rarely spend the money to recondition stock rods unless it's a special circumstance. The cost when finished gets close to the cost of an aftermarket forged rod that is stronger than a stocker in every way. Scat is a good brand that is now used by many top engine builders. I've used them on my own without complaint. Even the 571 cubed pontiac that BES is building for my father has scat components in it, and I trust Tony's decision making.

Most aftermarket rods are checked anyway as a precaution for roundness and balance. I've actually had a couple sets of Eagle rods that needed machining right out of the box. So nothings perfect, it pays to check.

Glad to hear I'm making some smart decisions in this build. (First time blue printing/building) My cousin that is a 14yr GM Cert mechanic will be over looking my shoulder as we put it back together. I think sometimes he's more excited then me....

No issue with intake sealing after decking? I assume it is something around .005" or so to clean it up?

I talked to him again this morning.

He needs to work on his communication. He was prepping me for the additional charge. Monday, my block comes up to be worked on and since I've been bugging him to give me a price, he threw it in, in case it needed it. On Monday his guys are going to check the block to see if it needs it. It may need it, may not. If it needs it then he's going to call, if not they'll continue on.

And Jeff it's to clean it up, no major milling.

engine wise.....nothing except the bearings for the rods and mains. I waited for the shop so I know what size to get.

    Regarding the car......different story.

I need to get the transmission rebuilt. Parts are just under $700. Labor about the same. For the rear I just need to get the upper tabs tack in place and get it finished weld then put together.

    Rear is 95% done.
Motor - I'd say is about 50%, just need to assemble.
    T56 - 0% I just have it out.

Most likely will need a new clutch too, might as well. I don't want to drop it down again....

When it's all done, she's going to sit pretty damn stout. Once the above is done, I just have to worry about doing the front suspension, WSQ hood & then it will be time for new paint.

I'm just chipping away a little at a time....

November is off to a great start.....

The block is back form the shop.

    Bored 4.050"
    New Clevite Cam Bearings installed
Crank, Forged Pistons & Rods balanced
Deck was checked for leveled (it didn't need milling)

All that is left to get to get it back to short block is a set of Clevite rod & main bearings (standard size)
