Orion, it's an illusion, it looks the same as SLP, just bigger opening.

it's a good looking lid though....did it come with that fasttoys.net logo on it or was that just for the picture? First thing I'd do is take that off if it were me.

On our SLP lid, I found that a factory Ram Air decal perfectly covered their logo.

    Few updates...

Lid - no label, just black, so no need to paint over. I may do a Firebird on it later at some time.

Block/rotating assembly are home. Going thru it get it cleaned up and ready for assembly.

Need to get new cam bearings install, shop didn't do it not sure why not but they apologized for not doing so.

And yes the cam is ok. I think it's from the rod trash because the main look like this too.

Also found the oil filter I've been looking for. Wix Part # 51522. If you need to look it up it's for the 2500HD GM trucks.

Why you ask is it so important...It's twice the size of the filter for the LS1 and because of the Melling 10296 oil pump I need to fill 6 qts of oil to help prevent sucking the pan dry at high rpms. Turbo guys use the filter too.

They normally hold just over 6 with the short filter

I use a longer filter on my car also - it's usually close to 6 quarts when the oil filter is full.

Well....next minor headache....gotta clearance the block to clear the rod bolts to clear the stroke. Looks like I need to get some dremel stuff.....

It's not much but still needs to be done.

And just so everyone knows, Wix = Napa Gold. Unless something has changed recently, they are the same filter with a different paint job.

So, let me see if I understand correctly:

The purpose of a larger filter is to allow a greater capacity for oil without over lubricating. More oil flowing through the same amount of engine means that the additives don't have to work as hard, so they last longer than 5.5 quarts, correct?

I know they look that way but it's set up by how they are going into the block from the bottom. The block is upside down on the stand at the time I was setting these up.They are marked by cylinder, you happen to be looking at the even row in this pic closest to you.
