Yep, can't watch the vids. I presume it was a successful rebirth of the thunder chicken. Have to change his profile to "formerly blew up block".

In this pic you can see said cable going behind the alternator and between the oil fill tube. Why would it not just come off the + battery post or the + post by the fuse box?

I realize this post is fairly old but thought I'd answer it for you....yes...you want that power coming off the back of the alternator. The reason is so you get a constant 14v to the fuel pump.

No smoke... no fire... no explosions with parts flying through the air. That was rather sedate and boring.

If it wasn't for this mandatory "time out" (vacation) my wife is making me take I'd have already have a break in tune on it.

Vacations are best spent in the garage.

argh....universal. A whole day of walking listening to the kids and the wife taking turns bitching about something. I'd rather stay home without any money than do that.

Matter of fact you could even schedule a prostrate exam and still be ahead of the game......

just an update so the thread isn't lost...

Transmission has been tore down and is getting rebuilt.

Took this quick pic to show the difference between the old syncros vs the old. The one is the back is the new one from the stage 2 kit. You can see the old one's are shot, nothing there.

Also something of interest....Sorry for the crappy pic I was focus on the number. On the front plate on the inside side. The races that go into these 2 spots for the output shaft and the other gear shaft are "loose" when compared to the other bearing races. Those had to be pressed in while these could be pushed in by hand. At first I thought it was a bad race, bad front plate (had to get a new one) or incorrect size...etc. It took several calls to ppl and all told me that the races and the plate are correct. If you can explain why I'd feel better about this.

Could go with the autozone slave. Same part, same casting marks, about $50.
