Depends on the goal....but 4.10 for the MS4 would tear it up with a 4000 stall.

    Ever attempt english?

And I am sorry, but not a chance in hell a mail order tune doesn't have some bucking/surging with a MS3/MS4.

Please go back and read my posts. Get your facts straight.
I do not hate on the large cams. They work great....if the car is set-up for it. Problem is, most aren't.
Don't know how many times I have seen people ask about the MS4 and then say they want to keep the stock gears because of gas mileage......

No surge,stall,buck...LOL why dont you go to TSP and read the specs on them

    1) Please explain how a 649 lift cam will not surge/stall at least a little
    2) Most of the people running cams on their cars have springs rated for a cam up to a 650 lift. Putting an MS4 with normal springs is retarded. You will need (at least the highest I have seen are comp cam springs) rated for 675 lift.
    3) Most of the people running an MS4 flycut their pistons because it BARLEY has PVT (piston to valve) clearance.

As far as mail order tuning is concerned LOL I have heard about a VERY good tuner at the Vette Doctors do a spot on tune with an MS4 and it still stalls at time.

I've seen quite a few people posting on this site say they run an ms4.....as of yet I have not read anyone PERSONALY having to flycut pistons..... the only time it ever comes up is when someone who doesn't even own one says "I heard you have to fly cut with that cam".....

Not saying there aren't, most of the ppl I know do. If I put that in my motor, I personaaly would flycut and inspect my springs every 5k.

First of all, the lift spec has NOTHING to do with drivability. A properly setup car with a quality tune will eliminate any stalling along with surging. A mail order tune will NEVER eliminate these issues. I've got an MS4, and it behaves. Like Luos said, the MS4 will not tolerate car with mail order tuning with a 800-900rpm idle, manual trans, and stock gearing.

The spelling and grammar champ recommended a cam kit, which includes springs that work with the cam.

    3) Most of the people running an MS4 flycut their pistons because it BARLEY has PVT (piston to valve) clearance.
Most do NOT flycut. Guys like me who have milled heads with larger valves and thinner head gaskets cut the pistons. Nearly all cam only guys do not.

Not saying anything bad about the springs, just saying a higher lift us needed than the avg springs. I wouldn't run it on a DD. Almost every post I read on tech, ppl recomended flucutying. But to each his own I guess.

I just bought a ms4 cam along with prc ls6 cnc ported heads.Waiting on delivery. As soon as I get some free time from work I'll install the cam and heads and post the video on this thread.

I'll tell you guys if the cam is streetable or not,as I'm not biased either way.

    I'm an A4, so I plan to run a 4000 stall and a hell of a tune.

So for you people on the fence about it, consider me the guiena pig.

I'd go with whatever Mr. Lous said... and you'd be better off putting a better pair of heads on there while your putting the cam in. You can pick up a cheap set of 243s pretty cheap. And also, don't plan on getting this project done in one day... give yourself plenty of time and do it right.

The only problem with this....is that everyone has completely different opinions of what streetable actually is.

    This is true.

I also failed to mention that the Camaro is not my dd.

LMFAO!!! yeah, had to laugh cause obviously Mr. Luos with over 20,000 post has no clue what he is talking about??? wow Luos you're pretty much one of the "ole school" LS guys by now and the newbs wanna say you have no clue basically...lol. pretty sad.

Newbs need to pay more attention when Mr. Luos speaks, a lot of those 20,000+ posts have been helpful advice to help people build up their LSX's.

One thing I noticed not being mentioned in here, and yes I was a previous MS3 guy, once you install those size cams you need to be sure and check your oil on a regular basis (you can burn/lose around a quart within a 1000 miles). My car only had 25,000 miles on it when I installed a MS3, then by 48,000 miles I was changing motors...partially due to a fucked up cam bearing (and I wanted to go bigger )...it was fun while it lasted. I am more of a big cam guy being allright for streetability, but to each his own. But like Mr. Luos is suggesting, you really need to have supporting mods to see the potential unfold. Suspension, tires, clutch, tranny (at least hardened synchros and steel shift forks if you are a M6) (stall and tranny cooler for A4), rear end if you want sticky tires, etc...and better than mail in tune, have it tuned on a dyno. But again, to each his own, you don't have to do any of these unless you want to make sure you gain reliable/usable power.

Can't wait to hear how that runs!

I'd like an MS4 for the freight train pulling, but I went for the under the curve power, not disappointed, but I would of LOVED to see what an MS4/SS4000 could do.

MS4 can be tuned to give pretty good driveability - I've done several of them... but I would agree that there is no way it should be mail-order tuned! Get someone reputable who knows what they are doing. You better let it idle and warm up before taking off to get some heat in the springs... lotta lift on that thing.

Good luck with your cam choice. Personally, Mr. Luos has all my respect based on his track record on this site. Since installing my 224R cam I am very happy with the results. It's all useable power for the streets. But as said before, to each his own.

This statement right there is the reason why I dislike big cams. No reason to spin it to 7k+ to make power. Only good for the guy who likes to blow-hard around his dyno #s.

You nailed it on the head my man.
I've wacked 3 ms4 cars with my baby cam only 226. Two were stalled autos one of which ran 11.4's cam only. My car def demonstrated that its not all about peak power on the street with them. My good friends car didn't need flycutting with stock heads on the ms4 but when he went to darts they had to be cut.
