    Why when ordering stock head gaskets they say 1998-2001 are graphite gaskets and 2002 are the only engines that use the MLS?

    If you are going to mill the heads then you will want a shorter gasket to reduce quench, if you're not milling use the GM MLS gasket.

    It's been too long since I have needed to know, so I'm definitely not firm on that, prolly shouldn't even have posted it.

    My 2000 had the graphite gaskets. I burned a valve early in the season dialing in the car. When I pulled off the head there was no little notch. I used the metal MLS gasket for the head that was pulled. The other side still has the graphite gasket. Call me crazy for having it that way, but it runs good and has barely dipped into the 10's and I'm still looking for traction. Can't wait to see what it does when falls cooler weather settles in.
