lt1 build questions
I have a 1993 trans-am im building the motor for now. My plans are .30 over with flat tops, better intake, tune and throttle body. already has headers, and flows.
My first question is
what kind of cam? didnt see much choices at tsp. was looking at the comp 224/230. would this work? how would it idle.
and is this gonna kill gas mileage if it idles rough?
thanks in advance.Last edited by dirttrax; 02-04-2010 at 11:16 PM.

There is very few choices on intakes. Are you going to port the stock heads or go aftermarket? What exactly are you primarily using the car for? Do you have a power goal?

Have the stock LT1 intake cleaned up. It flows more air than the Edelbrock air gap. Someone did a test and they took a stock untouched intake V's the Air gap and ran them on the same motor with ported and pollished heads. The stock made more power than the air gap. The air gap lost HP and only gained 2 or 3 ftlb torque

Yes i meant having the stock one opened up for 58mm, main concern is what cam. This is a daily driver and of course want all the power i can get, lol would like a rough idle if it wont kill gas mileage, dont know if that affects it or not. Thats why im asking. thanks in advance

Lt4 is specific to an lt4 head. The ports on an LT4 and the angle of the intake flange is different. If you have to have it you have to have it.

your talking about lobe when you say rough idel I belive so what you look at is the LSA on the cam. the smaller the LSA the more lobe it has but there is a point that you really screew up on the cam if you get to much over lap. I can't say I'l let someone else talk cam specs for good preformance with lobe.

Call up a cam manufacturer. When you give them all your info and what you want out of it they can recommend a cam for you. Do you have an auto or M6?
