    LSA Question

    When I am looking at a cam specs, what does the LSA +2 mean. I understand the LSA affects idle quality. Tighter the number the rougher the idle. What does the +2 do for the LSA? What would it do for an LSA of 111?

    it doesn't change the LSA. that is ground into the cam. the +2 means the lobes were ground 2* advance from 0* position. so, the valve events are happening 2* sooner than the same cam with no advanced ground into them.

    advance = lower rpms

    retarded = higher rpms.

    and not much. we are talking a couple hundred rpms.

    the main reason why they grind advance into the cams is for chain stretch. as the chain stretches, the valve events will start coming in later.

    The reason I ask is I have been intrigued by the G5X2 cam for a while and think this or something close to it is what I am going to install. I asked a vendor for a cam recommendation metioning that I liked the G5X2 cam. His reply was to grind a cam close to the G5X2 specs but with an LSA of 111+2. The G5X2 can be had on 112 or 114 LSA for quite a bit more money.

    Custom cam-232/238 .592/.602 on a 111+2
    G5X2- 232/240 .595/.608 112 or 114


    Opinions on either cam wanted.
