LS7 CAM in a LS1?
The guy I just bought my car from said he had a custom cam made for the car. The cam is made for a LS1 but he took the specs from a LS7 to cut the cam. Is this possible? Could this make more power or is this just a mild setup. I picked up the car Friday from the guy and he Dynoed it right in front of me. It made 405rwhp With LT headers, cat. delete, 3 1/2 Magnaflow exhaust, LS7 cam, 90mm LS6 intake and a custom tune. Does this sound right? Also What would be a good matching head for this setup. The car is a 2002 SS

That's very possible. From what I've read the LS7 cam specs are 211/230 .593"/.588" (not sure of LSA). With similar specs, (224/228 .591/.591 112 LSA) I'm right at 400rwhp with my 98 Formula. You may want to make sure he has supporting mods to the cam to ensure long engine life such as Ls6 oil pump, valvetrain, and a strong timing chain.

I do know that the 2002 came with better upgrades (like the LS6 90mm intake) than all the others models. The car only has 28,000 miles on it so it should be fine for a while I hope. I will slowly start doing all the nessary upgrades to match the performance of the car. Sorry I just had to put these little guys in there I freaking chocked win I seem it. LOL

No I'm pretty sure the LS6 intake manifold was 75mm or 76mm inlet. unless it's been ported or replaced. F.A.S.T. makes a 90mm intake but other than that I think thats it.

He put an after market intake on it but said that the stock one dynoed more hp than the after market one did and that the stock one was a LS6 90mm throttle body. Which came stock on that car in 2002 and thats why they made more power than the 2001 and lower years. 2001 and below stock power was 325hp and the 2002 was 345hp.. Is this correct?

BLACK- 2000 Camaro SS
2000: Z28 = 305 hp, Base SS = 320 hp, SS w/optional exhaust = 330 hp
2001: Z28 = 310 hp, Base SS = 325 hp, SS w/optional exhaust = 335 hp
2002: Z28 = 310 hp, Base SS = 325 hp, SS w/optional exhaust = 335 hp, SS w/optional exhaust & Blackwing lid = 345 hp
Keep in mind these are just GM's advertised numbers, all underrated, especially the base numbers.
2001 & 2002 have exactly the same powertrain. Only available difference was the optional lid on the SS, but everyone has put a new lid on anyway.
