LS6 cylinder heads on LS1
How would a set of LS6 cylinder heads perform on a (1999) LS1. I plan on getting a cam to go with the heads.

Are you looking to save money with them??
Is that why you are looking at the LS6 heads?? Cheap?
Personally, I can't see doing all that head swap work to put a stock-like head on a car. Patriot makes some fine heads that will outperform the stock LS6 heads for $1100 or so.
What cam are you looking at?

The patriot ore eigther the 5.3L heads or LS6 heads. then they take them and port polish them up.
If you wanted todo it in stages per say. you could get the LS6 heads have them for a bit them have them P&P.
The differnace with the patriot is you get it all done at once and it comes with everything valves and what not.
For myself i will be getting a 241 casting(LS6) then do a minor P&P on them at a later date. The LS6 stock heads form will flow fine for me and the HP that I want to put at the RW with the CAM that I am looking at.

On a stock 2001 Camaro SS LS1, without a cam(I have 1.8 Crane rockers), what would the gains be? Thanks, Gar

what abouy port and polished LS6 heads with a cam. I don't know what cam I want but would it be capable of supporting 375 to 400 horsepower?

yea. P&P on the cylinder heads, a good cam like the TR224, headers, TB, and intake... about 400 RWHP

Awesome! Thats exactly what I wanted to here. I want to have around 400 horsepower on a budget and still pass Pennsylvania emissions.
What size throttle body should I go with?

I heard Ed Vert has a good cam and keeps his emmisions leagal. I'll see if i can find the post that i read it from.

Here we go
Here is the link that takes you to a CAM guide(READ READ READ).
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327734
To save time here is the paragraph:
If you have the sniffer for emissions either go with the cam of your choice and pray you find a good enough tuner and have luck on your side or choose a smog friendly grind. Keep the overlap in check, the more negative overlap @ .050 the easier it will be to pass. Here is Ed's (Ed Vert's) Cali smog sheet his tr224 114 which has negative 4* overlap @ .050.

i came across a good deal on brand new factory ls6 heads that are slightly ported. i also swapped in a 04 ls6 cam with it. the car runs strong. i realize there are more powerful setups, but i came across a good deal and i wanted the car to still be reliable. i liked the idea of using gm parts also.
