    Ls6 Cam Question?

I Just Got A 04 Zo6 Cam For My 02 Ss. I Know That The 04-06 Ls6 Cams Have A Smaller Base Circle. Do I Need To Go With Slightly Longer Than Stock Pushrods?

Z06 heads utlize 6mm longer valve stems to compensate for the smaller base circle of the cam, 6mm = .023....,7.425 rods would be recommended in your case, however it's always a good idea to check for proper lifter preload before buyin parts..

I just bought the LS6 heads (#243) and cam for my LS1. I had thought it was a direct replacement for my original parts but now I'm wondering if the pushrods are long enough. Are the Z06 LS6 or am I ignorant here...

and you wont need longer pushrods as long as the valves are stock LS6 valves

Thanks for that assurance. I was going to replace the pushrods with chromemoly and assume they are the stock length 7.400s. Sorry SSARICE for busting in on your thread.

so if you have the ls1 pushrods with the ls6 cam and heads, is anything bad gonna happen?

From what I gather, the problem is with M6 cars. I think hitting the rev limit on a blown shift can bend the stock rods. The guy who sold me the LS6 kit recommended the chrome moly replacements but implied it wasn't mandatory. It's a precautionary mod with the added power. I intend to push the engine close to 500 hp with nitrous so I think I should do it.

Personally, I would stick with stock pushrods on a 100% stock valvetrain. Any upgrades though I would have hardened in there.
Also, any time you make ANY valvetrain change I would always double check pushrod length IF possible.

LS6 cam and heads are minimal gains for the work involved. They can be bought cheap, but with all the install work involved, might as well go a little bigger/badder.

I hate that noise makes the car sound so trailer trashy

    No.
    But check them anyways.
    At least check the preload.

Be honest I still have NO CLUE what preload is. I just bought new lifters(LS7 type) but what do i do to check preload too?

Not sure what those lifters require for preload.
Since the heads are coming off....GET THEM WORKED!!! Instead of having to go back later on. Worth it to do it once instead of twice.

I would have to look it up again, but I think every 1/4 turn on a stock rocker past zero lash is .017" preload or something like that.

stock LS1 lifters like .080-.100 of preload, i dont know about the LS7 lifters..theoretically you would need 7.425 pushrods with the LS6 cam, stock heads and gaskets to maintain stock preload specs....

For right now, I am going to say yes.
Because I don't know what kind of preload those LS7 lifters want.

sorry about that, thought you had the LS6 cam kit....unfotunately i know nothing about the LS7 setup, i can only assume they utilize the same valvtrain geomotry, in which case you should use the stock lenght pushrods
