Then I am going to be very disappointed because the LS6 heads and cam turn the LS1 310 hp engine into the 405 hp Z06 equivalent according to everything I have researched. There is virtually no difference between these engines other than the heads, cam and a small partition which has been removed from the Corvette LS6 block to reduce oil ingestion. As for getting them cheap, the GM LS6 kit retails for $1850 with better deals possible.

    405 HP is crank power.
For that $1850 you can get a cam and heads that make 425 RWHP.

The Z06's 405 hp has been dyno'd to even more than that - at the wheels. My slightly modified LS1 makes 327.5 hp - at the wheels according to the dyno sheet I have here. That puts the my LS1 already close to 400 hp at the crank.

That's what I get for reading magazine reviews. Like I said, I'm going to be very disappointed if this is the case. I'm just glad I got a terrific price on the kit.

Since I've already barged into the thread: We have emission testing here. I'd love to go long tubes and a bigger cam and porting the heads but passing emission testing is the reason I went with the GM package; it's a sure thing. Do you happen to have any time slips? I'd like to know where you are in the quarter mile.

TR224 will pass emissions with a good tune, a TR220 will pass with less hassle...no good ones

I was told that any cam bigger than the gm 204/218 assumes headers. Maybe shorties are okay but LTs will take away my cats. I'm not even thinking I'm an expert with this but I have to go with the easy and sure thing first. I'm positive I can install the heads and cam, especially with the bona fide factory kit. I'd love to have a lope at idle but with the baby cam I'm pretty sure I'll have a real sleeper in my camaro that drives right through the e-check center and gets reasonable mileage in town. Not doubting the bigger cam will go but for me, the boosted horsepower and a 125 spray will get me all the car my 10 bolt rear can handle.

headers are nice but not mandatory with any cam....Thunder's Cheater cam is designed to work with stock manifolds, not sure about emissions tho...anyway, good luck with your project

    ok, cool. thanks.

for the record, my factory ls6 heads are also mildly ported...so while its not the biggest/baddest for the time/money, i'm still pretty impressed with it. sometimes i wish i wouldve went with something alittle more agressive though, as most of you sugested.

I have to do a retraction after searching for numbers for the LS6. The power gain I was hoping to see won't be there after the h/c installation. I did find one post in another forum where Norris Motorsports claims to have gotten 402 whp on a baseline motor from a tune but if I'm lucky I will see the numbers you say here. The LS7 Corvettes are the ones putting out numbers beyond advertised. Thanks.
