Ok I installed this package, and everything went well until I attempted to mount the coils. My car is a 98 with the perimeter bolt valve covers, and the coil mounts moulded in. I got valve covers off a 2003 truck, that fit, but I could not figure which of the 12 coil mounts to use. So I purchased what I thought would work from the pictures, and they did not work. Then I got smart, and contacted a local shop specializing in F-bodys, and he knew exactly what I needed. They have been ordered, and should arive this afternoon. Hopefully it will be running tonight, if nothing else goes wrong.

I just contacted the seller too. I am waiting to hear back from him. I hope that you like it. let us know how it feels as soon as you get her running. Take pics too. Also, could you please let us know what covers and coils, etc...you used. Like an additional needed parts list or something. I have a 98 SS that I want to do this to.

Did you have to drop the engine to do the work?

Ok I did this swap, and had several issues, since my car is a 98.

    1. The valve covers on the 98's use perimeter bolts, and these heads use center bolts. Found a junk yard set no problem.

    2. Coils on 98 bolt directly to the valve covers. Had to purchase the coil mounts.

    3. PVC connections are in different place, so some modification of the original plumbing had to be done.

Don't forget to transfer all of the plugs over off of the old heads, especially the coolant temperature plug on the right head.

She fired right up, and idled fine, with no programming.

Now having said all of that my original problem is still there. I have a ticking noise that sounds like a valve tick. I will open a new thread to discuss this problem.

This would be a lot easer swap on a 99 or newer model.

That is all I have for now.

No, I was not able to test it.

My original ticking problem is still there.

So now the motor is at the machine shop, and I am having it totaly rebuilt. Every nut and bolt is to be removed and checked. Including these new heads, just to make sure. This is so frustrating!!!

I was just given the link to his new auction and bought this setup. Hopefully, its all its cracked up to be. We'll see. I'm thinking about upgrading the roller rockers to 1.7. Do you guys think its worth the expense?

    ticking...

many people have some ticking issues after a swap...
naturally these ls1's are known to have a sewing machine sound after a swap

then again if you went with a ZO6 cam it shouldn't....

one very important aspect that is overlooked & wasn't thought of when the how to on ls1howto.com was written up

the oil pump pick up tube o-ring (blue) MUST be replaced if oil pump pick up tube is disconnected (ie changing timing chain to LS2 and/or swapping out the oil pump which i HIGHLY reccomend)

once the o-ring is compressed it is not re-usable

if put back together with out replacing & installed properly you should still have good oil pressure....

    however
@ idle there may not be a tick but ticking will occur or get louder when the engine is under a load... this happens bc of aeration due to the old seal/o-ring
remember though oil pressure will still read good.....
once the load is released good oil is getting to the lifters & the ticking will stop/become more settle again

now we tear apart my friends car again to replace the $3-$5 o ring....

so drop k-member & oil pan to not pull the front apart again and install rod bolts
may as well make it worth it

(we're going to try and not drop the K.... but im not holding my breath it will work)

Mine is finally in the shop and getting this kit installed along with a ford 9" rear with detroit true trac POSI and 3.73 gears. I can't wait to get it back. Hopefully it adds some good power.
