Ls1 Cam Swap
I am planning to do a cam swap and was wondering if it is necessary to remove the intake? I have done a swap on an lt1. How long should it take?

No, i dont see why you would have too. Maybe the throttle body just to make it easier too work on. If you're asking 'cause of the lifters, all you have to do is spin the cam a few times too make sure the lifters go up into their plastic retainers. But that isnt always guaranteed, so you can do the pen magnet trick or buy a cam install kit from thunder racing that has these tools that slide into the block too hold up the lifters and you wont have too think twice about'em. There is a nice write up on ls1howto.com that'll show you what im talking about and goes into great detail on the entire procedure.
Wow... i just realized that you dont accesss the lifters from the valley, you access them by removing the heads. Oh well, everything i told you is still correct though. Unless someone has anything else too add.

You can be 100% sure you wont drop a lifter by using the pen magnet method. They explain this on LS1Howto.com on the h/c swap page. I did this on my friends 99 t/a when we put his cam in. Oh and BTW we didnt take off the intake or throttle body and we had plenty of room!

shouldnt have to remove intake and such, but isnt it a rule of thumb that with any cam swap, the springs should also be changed?!?

What year LS1? While you are in there you might as well put in a ported LS6 oil pump.
