Smile LS1 built with all forged parts...

To summarize, after breaking a 918 valve spring I decided to rebuild my engine and went with all forged components. 10 of the 16 valves were bent so in went Ferrea valves and guides. Forged Mahl pistons and rings, Eagle H-Beams, polished the crank, bored the block 10 over, line bored, balanced and blueprinted. I need to put 500 miles on her then a check up for the dyno tune.
I should be ready to roll out by the 26th to go to G15. My tuner says my LS1+ should pull at least 450 at the wheels, maybe a little more.

    Thumbs up Update

I doubt my car will be ready by the 24th. Won't be going to G15, that's life. I put a new LS7 timing chain on as well as a new water pump and thermostat. The only left original in the engine are the rockers and the block, it's better than new at this point. Can't wait to get it on the road, then the dyno!

Mind if I ask about how much you spent on it all? I'm looking at doing the same. I have 1 bent valve and want to do a complete rebuild. Interested in build cost.

I have nothing to hide pricewise. The machine shop (Total Engine Concepts) Bored the block 10 over, line bored the block, magnafluxed the block and heads and decked the heads. They did a three angle performance valve job, assembled the heads, installed and degreed the cam, installed the pistons/rings and finally balanced and blueprinted the entire engine and clutch together. $2000
Keep in mind that TEC is a top tier engine builder, they build the LS7 engines for all the Mosler cars and many Nascar teams.
    8 - Mahle forged pistons and rings. - $775
    16 - Ferrea stainless steel valves - $340
    16 - Ti retainer locks $180
    8 - Forged Eagle H Beams - $349
    1 - GMPP Harmonic Balancer - $99
    1 - GMPP LS1 water pump - $214
    1 - 180º Thermostat - $49
    1 -Fel-Pro gasket kit -$249
    8 - Comp Cam 918 valve springs - $200
    8 - AC Delco Irridium spark plugs - $112
    6 - Quarts Brad Penn Grade 1 30W break in oil - $46
    1- Oil filter - $13
    3 - Gallons Dex coolant $54
    4 - Quarts Synthetic Transmission fluid - $45

My advise for an economical yet powerful NA build would be to go with a LS2 short block, forged internal rotating parts and MAST Cathedral port heads. For SC or Turbo applications I would substitute a LQ9 short block. Good luck with your build, if you need any advise or help feel free to contact me..

I will be having the SS tuned by the end of the week. My engine builder TEC (Total Engine Concepts) expects 470-500 RWHP with a slightly conservative tune.
