Loud ticking noise after cam install
I just installed a TS 228r .588/.588 cam in my LS1 and there is a loud annoying ticking. It doesn't do it when engine first starts and then after the oil gets warm it starts and goes through the whole rpm range. Also installed new springs. I have stock lifters as well. The sales man at Texas Speed said that the lift shouldn't be a problem with the pistons. I went back and rechecked all the rockers and all were still tight and in tact. I could use any help I can to figure this problem out.

mine kind of does it too, i think its the normal sewing machine noise.
I'd say if its just a slight tick, almost sounds like valves are going bad, its normal. I could be wrong. I bought into horsepower, I didn't earn it.Last edited by eautocad; 10-31-2007 at 10:51 AM.

Is there anyone else that has this same cam with the same noise? The guy at Texas Speed said that all LS1 when having the cam swapped will make this noise. Is that true or not?

depending on the ticking, uhhh might check your header bolts. A friend of mine swore up and down something was wrong inside his valvetrain and couldn't find anything, another friend ck'd his headers bolts and tightened the passenger side back and loud tick gone. But yes that cam should be fine for clearance on stock heads. Also what type and weight of oil do you use? I can tell a difference in my car valvetrain noise between different weights and manufacturers. And what springs did you go with?

83 Z28 new project- 98 Formula WS7-sold:(
Mine ticks as well, my cam is a bit smaller than yours, like autocad said, it sounds sort of like a sewing machine. Not too loud, but definately noticeable.

mines soft not loud... a loud tick might have something to do with Spark advance? Too rich/lean knock? After installing the cam, did you re-tune your pcm?
