Thumbs up Just A Ls6 Cam And Heads...?

What kind of gains am I going to realize by changing out my heads and cam to a (2004) ZO6 heads and cam and LS6 intake..?

By the way, hello, this is my first post here.

I have a 1998 Camaro SS with a lid, cutout and hooker shortys.

I put down 319 RWHP and 324 RWTQ.

Thanks, I'm just curious to see what people think I might gain from this swap..

my friend has a 98 with your mods, with the heads and cam he put down the exact numbers you already have. Decent heads, but you can do better for less money, and the cam is less than sufficient to justify a swap

yeah, i would like to go more aggressive, but I have the smog police of california to report to every other year... !

What I would optimally be looking for is @ 380-400 RWHP/TQ, without failing the sniffer.

Any suggestions..? I had a recommendation to get a 224/224 114 cam... would that give me higher gains than the ZO6?

I would suggest something like the 224/581 on a 114 or even 115 and you should pass. It is said to be rather smog friendly, and several people on this board make 375-385 rwhp with it (plus bolt-ons). You definitly wouldn't be dissapointed with the power, especially compared to what you would have gotten with the LS6 cam. Considering you are in cali and can't put on long tubes you really can't expect huge numbers though. Your exhaust is gonna choke off the potential of your cam

I would also vote for the 224/224 cam.........way better gains than the Z06 cam, also, the cam won't be as good as it could be unless you will have the cutouts open.........I would get a cat back exhaust and some hi-flow cats and have it tuned for best everyday usable power.........fwiw.

I have a cutout that dumps before my muffler.. so that should help some in terms of freeing some exhaust flow... that is.. after my hooker shorty's and stock cats...

is driveability at all a problem with the 224 or is it pretty mellow...?

Just get it tuned by someone good and you won't have any problems. The shorties will help out for sure, especially on a 98

the 224 is pretty mild.........tuning is key, but you would see more gains with LT's, too bad that isn't an option for you
