Thanks for looking into the cost of an engine for me.
I am really trying to avoid having to buy a new engine though.

If you've got a rod knocking or a spun bearing then there's not much you can do about it short of pulling the engine and rebuilding the rotating assembly. Just keep driving it. Video still sounded like piston slap to me but I could be wrong.

Are you kidding me. 8100.00 for an LS1. OMG. Take 5k and have your engine built by a pro and put the other 3100 dollars back in the bank. For 5k you should get 500 HP.

Oh, that is where the confusion is, the video isn't of my car.

Send a new video. Nobody wants to spend money on something that may not need major work. Dealers wonder why they are slow in the repair and sales departments. Well, the average car is 25k and look at what they carge for repairs. 8,100.00 for a new LS1 engine. You know all you are going to get is the long block. Everything else will be swaped over. How many hours did they quote you on the swap ?

They quoted $2800 to do the swap. $5300 for the engine.

Even at 100.00/hr. that is 28 hours to R & R and swap parts. WOW. Everyone who has changed an engine knows that is way out of line. They are about 10 hours over and the price of the engine is way over. 5300.00 for a long block is crazy. I hope you do not need an engine but if you do we have members in your area who can recomend a good speed shop to do the work. Like I said for 5k you should get 500 hp not a stock long block.

5300 was probably for the whole motor intake to oil pan which would be fine. However thats still way too much money you can get a new long block for about 2500 or jump on craigslist and find just an ls longblock and use your intake etc off your engine. I just sold my 02 ls1 longblock for 700 bucks and it took me quite a while. so good luck also if you can find an lq9 6.0 engine that would work fine also it makes similiar hp but does weigh a tad more plus it would be better for mods later down the road. an lq4 would also work but it has lower compression and sacrifices hp.
