Question how to remove oil pan

    Hey guys,
I am in the process of removing the oil pan and I can't figure out how to get it to clear the trans bell housing (T56). The chilton manual says to losen the 6 K member bolts and lift the engine 3 inches to get to pan to clear. However, after practically losening the bolts until they come out the pan still won't clear. How do I remove the K member without damaging anything? I took the front shock bolts off. Do I have to remove anything else or can I just remove one side to get the oil pan to clear? It is only 1-2 inches from clearing. Will removing the oil pickup tube help? Thansk guys

im assuming that the pan is completelty loose. I had to tilt the K member to be able to get the clearance. I had it hanging from the shocks and i push it forward and tilt the back off it down.

I went around the K member and remove the bolts of the brake line straps. that allow the brake lines to stretch so more when i lowered the k member.

got the pan out. Had to completely drop the passenger side K memeber and loosen the driver side. I am not sure how people drop the pan without removing part of the K memeber. Maybe the A4s have a different tranny set up. So the Chilton manual was wrong yet again. Maybe they should actually pull the part the way they write it up rather than pulling the engine out of the car and assuming the way things come off the vehicle.
