How much RWHP can I expect from 408
I took the plunge today and started my 408 build. I was wondering if any one could guess or get close to telling me how much power I can expect.
408 6 speed
11:1
Stage 3 PRC 2.08/1.60
TSP 244/248 .612/.615 113 LSA
PTM 90mm TB
FAST 90mm Intake
FAST 36lb injectors
1 3/4" headers

id estimate with peak hp cam youre running to be between 450-475rwhp. that all depends on your tune of course...

Thanks man. I just started posting but I have owned 2 4th Gen Zs and a 4th Gen WS6. Texas Speed told me that I should get 500 with a good tune. That sounded high to me but would be great. I also have a TNT 150 shot.

i would say as long as you are honest and modest aobut your parts and expectations and dont get caught up in PEAK numbers, etc., one is more pleased with the results. that's not to say 500 isnt possible but if you think between 450-475, and end up with more all is good rather than focusing on the highest and not achieving that number...

That is an awesome way to look at it. I never thought of it like that. 475 would be a good number. Do you have any suggestions on a rearend. I was thinking 9" but if I could get a good deal on a 12 bolt I might swing that route. Ive never looked to see which rear takes more power to run. Im also thinking 4:11 gear. What do you think. Thanks

If you go the 12 bolt route I would suggest making sure it has the through-bolts. The Moser 12-bolt in my WS-6 doesn't and even the Moser website says not even any form of threadlocker suffices for regular inspection. Since we all know how much ground clearance we have and unless you have your own lift this will become a quick pain in the ass. However with that said I have the 4.11's, Eaton Posi, and all the upgrades and I don't have a bit of trouble out of it as far as maint. The only issues I have noticed are the posi unit doesn't like one wheel to rotate faster than the other and the bolts need to be checked every so often. Just something for you to think about maybe some other owners have one of the Strange rearends. Also in case you want to look at the setups.

Killer setup. I would love to build a turbo car but there is no one within 200 miles of me that could tune it. Thanks for the info on the 12 bolt. Thats why I like first hand experience because I wouldnt think of checking the bolts. I hope to get around 600 to the ground with enuf spray. Awesome vid.

Moser 9" for a high powered M6.
The 12 bolt isn't bulletproof. The 9" might as well be.
475-500 RWHP. Texas Speed does great with their motors. Happy with mine for sure.2008 Trailblazer SS

Thanks. I was hoping that someone would suggest a 9". Thats the way im leaning. I live about 90 miles from Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg and I can keep a couple different center sections for the track and the long road trips. The guys at Texas Speed are very helpful. Im sure I ask alot of dumb questions and these guys make me feel smart.

M6, lets see, there are guys with smaller cam and stage 2 heads on stock 346 hitting 470 RWHP. A guy in town had a similar set up to what you are going for 408, close to same size cam with a Turbo 400 tranny and he hit over 500. So I wouldn't be a bit surprised if you get over 525 out of a M6. But 500 should definately be a no brainer.

I have thought about the 9" route myself but the 12-bolt was installed before I bought the car. But I have considered sliding the 12-bolt under my firehawk in place of its current 10-bolt and then putting a 9" under the WS-6. That way I wouldn't have to worry about breaking either one and since the firehawk is my DD and I don't race it very often I could probably avoid the torque checking of the torque arm bolts. As a sidenote I believe the 9" rear is a little cheaper and a whole lot stronger. I am a little surprised noone has chimed in with any information/experiences with any of the rearends from Strange. I believe the 12-bolt that they made had the through-bolts, but I think they went to the S60 type rearend.
Oh yeah and good luck with the 408.

Don't get caught up in peak numbers....
Also...an N/A 346 that makes 470 RWHP isn't that streetable. Compression is bumped up, cam is large, heads are big, etc.
Not saying it can't be streetable...just not likely.
Much easier to get that 470 RWHP with a mild 402/408. And be tame. And be faster than the peaky 346ci.

The guy I was referring too has a MS3 cam(237/242 .603/.609 113lsa, unmilled stage 2 heads, compression still close to stock. And it is streetable. Hell my setup is rather close to that one, and mine is a DD. But again streetable is up to the person driving it...LOL. But yeah I agree with you Mr. Luos in "Don't get caught up on peak numbers" peak numbers don't win races. I just think the guy will see some good peaks out of it. And I wouldn't be surprised to see over 500 RWHP. Keep us posted.

The MSx cams aren't smaller cams either.
Those are large cams for the LS1.
