How expensive is it really to swap a cam? please read
I have a '00 Z28 M6. It is two weeks old to me and I am wanting to make some modifications over time. This car is my DD and honestly I don't know how long I will keep it, i have been driving for 8 yrs and have never had a car longer than 2 years. This is my fifth car. Keeping that in mind I don't want to dump a lot of money into the car only to sell it. It is a possibility that after a few years I will get something else and turn this into a project car barring any major financial setbacks. Performance wise, I plan on getting a lid ($100), catback ($400), pacesetter LT's ($400), Pacesetter ORY pipe ($125) and possibly a cam. I would most likely be doing the install myself ($800 - $900) with cam, pushrods, LS2 Timing chain gaskets and springs), heads just seem to expensive to justify the gain on a DD, and of course a tune ($400). My car has T-tops so when should i add the SFC's? How much HP can the stock clutch handle? and is it pretty much guaranteed that if i get about a 228/228 cam that I will be tearing out my rear-end? I don't drive at the track and the extremely vast majority of my driving is normal, but when I get the urge to go fast, i love having the ability to blow by almost anyone. Are the prices I have in parentheses accurate? what other hidden things am I missing such as gaskets/seals.
Thanks for any and all help,

How many miles might want to look at springs and the water pump. My car had 120 K when I did my motor work. Six speed puts a little over 420 to the wheels my stock rear-end lasted all of two days and that was street didn't even make it to the track. My Moser 12 bolt was the best thing I ever did, ain't gonna break that baby unless I find another 420 horse or so.

Oh and if it does have some miles may want to get the fuel injectors re-worked make sure they still flow well, mine did not and it caused the guy tuning a nightmare before I finally figured it out.

Probably O.K. on the injectors. mine 120K, I think I would still change the springs they are not expensive you are already in there you might as well not take the chance. Oh and this sounds simple but it can also cause you trouble if you just bought it change your fuel filter, it probABLY HASN'T BEEN.

red- 98 M6 Z28
Some guys are making pretty big HP on stock rear end. I had my old camaro for 88k miles and launched it everyday and did burnouts and tossed it around and never had a problem.

Consider sfc and suspension work prevenative maintence. As far As the other mods go i would go in-order. Get your sfc too keep things together, Intake,Exhaust should come befor the cam.
Start modding and enjoying the benefits.
