    High RPM Pinging

I just bought my 01 WS6 in May this year and I’m new to the forum. I didn't notice the pinging till about 2 months ago. The pinging starts around 4500rpm. To me the sound almost seems like something going on in the valve train. It also occasionally thrown codes. I did a search on the forum it seems several other people have had this problem. I never found much of a solution to the problem. I've tried seafoaming. I changed the oil. Cleaned the MAF, throttle body and K&N filter. Checked the fuel pressure at idle not at WOT though. I don't think there is any kind of tune on this car but I could be wrong. I really can't afford to just throw money at some possible problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Just a guess, but it could be a bad knock sensor, not retarding the timing, or bad gas... Try some gas treatment and a good tank of fuel ?

No it doesn't feel like its missing. I have tried octane booster and seafoam is the fuel. I only have 91 octane around here but i did just take a trip to Kentuckey a few weeks ago where 93 is available but still didn't help. The codes where po131 and po151 i get these codes only once or twice a month since i bought the car but they only come on under WOT.

with both of them being thrown ...replace the ENG SEN fuse.

what type of maf do you have..?? is it stock ? i could see it being a aftermarket maf causing all types of issues.

How could a fuse cause the codes? The MAF is stock but i ported the housing. Which i have read on on here can cause problems but i don't think its that. I might try to find a stock housing just to make sure.

also octane booster raises your octane by 0.1 or so... waste of money...

how many miles are on the car??? might also be a cat crapping out... do you feel any power loss at the rpms that the ticking starts???

The car has 103K miles on it. It doesn't seem to lose power but haven't had this car very long so i'm not to sure how hard it should pull in the upper RPM's.

i'd get someone to program your rear 02's off and then gut your cats... but i'm thinking this might be either a vaccum leak or an oil problem since there is ticking... you may even have a collapsed lifter or one that is about to...

i know exactlly what your going through man i had the same exact problem with my 02 and it drove me crazy and i did all the things you did and then some. i finally narowed it down to two things one the prvious owner had a crappy hand held tune in the computer and i found this out because i took it to the dealer and had them check it and they said their was an aftermarket tune in their. so they flashed it back to stock and that helped alot!!!!. but the ping was not gone. so i figured that it had to be the maf sensor even though i cleaned it. so i bought one from gmpartsdirect. through it in and problem solved. never had a single ping since. and i wasnt even throwing any codes. i would put money on it that is your problem. just dont buy junk aftermarket or ported mafs they are very very sensitive. you need to get and oem acdelco unit. trust me! hope i helped

Put an unmodified stock MAF in it and I'll bet your problems go away...
