    heads and oil pump

    hey wats up guys,

so im having problems with the oil pressure on my 2000 z28, when i start up in the morning oil pressure is at 0 after 2 to 3 secs it goes to about 40. car has a leak which looks like its from valve covers/opsu. when it looses press makes a pretty loud noise that sounds like push rod, lifters, and hoping not a cranck bearing and the noise comes and goes depending of pressure.

pretty soon ill be doing valve covers and opsu. while i was there i wanted to do upgrade to ls6 vally cover, oil pump, and why not valve springs and push rods. about the valve springs and push rod would the ls6 be a simple swap??? also looking for a oil pump and ive heard of people replacing it with the ls2 how those hold up???

if u guys can please chime in i would really appreciate. thx in advance

The oil pump is the life of your engine.. Even a few seconds of zero pressure, especially intermittent pressure will be damaging to an engine..
I would'nt add new parts to an engine that see's regular loss of oil presure..
Personally I call an engine with no oil pressure, junk... But that's just me and my .02..

RI would remove the oil pan and inspect the crank and bearings, remove the valve covers and inspect everything. If all the tolerances check, then I'd upgrade everything. I would avoid running the engine until then also. At some point, you will lose oil pressure for good. Then your engine would be toast. Although, it would give you a reason to swap in a LS6.....or LS7

I am willing to bet the coating is off the face of the mains @ the very least the caps..
Likely possible it's the same for the rod bearings..
Very soon after the oil pump stops the oil film is compromised, crank touches bearing surface.. IMHO
