Plenty of other factors play into the life of a rear-end than just the set-up of the rear-end itself. I know you are smart and know that. That's all I'm saying. Improper suspension, pinion angle, wheel hop, etc. Many factors could have contributed to your friend's 9" breaking with such little HP/TQ going through it.

What broke exactly? I'm curious to know.
    It's on jackstands.

I'll shoot you a PM. And I'm really not disagreeing with you at all and see your points very clearly and actually agree with you. Just letting OP know that it's not as bad as everyone says in all situations.

All shops are different. The biggest part is, with a cam swap and no heads, the heads don't have to come off and saves in labor and materials. With heads coming off, you have to add labor, gaskets, head bolts and so forth. MY GUESS is around 850 for cam swap 1100 for head and cam swap. And that's without price of heads

Damn $850 for cam swap install for labor? The shops around me charge over 1k for just headers and exhaust. Lol. Part of the reason I do all of my own work. That and it is fun.

Header and exhaust install is 350 at RPM when I asked if Ryan could do it because I didn't have time. I ended up not putting it on and starting buying turbo parts.

I personally love the F14 cam and suggest looking into it

Just found the quote. It was 795 for the install of cam, springs, oil pump and chain by RPM in NC

I would HIGHLY recommend a 3200-3600 stall that is paired to the camshaft you choose.

    ^^ this!!

I would do a stall before a cam if you have to piece it together. A stall with stock cam will work Alot better than cam with stock stall.

I just happen to have a brand new 3600 stall for sale as well. Haha..

I like FMS cams. Every time they come up for sale I'm always too late to buy and too cheap to buy a new one. I have done a couple cars with them in 430ish range.

A 228R on a 112 LSA and a Torquer V2 are also mild cams which have been proven over and over again with the LS1...will also give you good drive-ability.

Go to this thread: Best cam for a cam only bolt on car...
