heads/cam question
Hi I have a 98z28 with 69,000 miles on it. My question is would it be ok to put a aftermarket heads / cam pakage on it with that many miles? It also has some piston slap until it warms up a bit. It runs strong though. I was planning on going with a Texas speed "magic stick 3" cam package 112 lsa with Precision Race Components stg 2.5- 5.3 heads, ported ls6 oil pump, double timing chain, TS-hardened chrommoly pushrods. Do you guys think this is a decent set up?

sounds pretty good. make sure the heads you get are for 97-98 perimeter bolt. if you get the center bolt design, you'll have to swap valve covers and coil packs.
Cold Air Intake, Muffler Delete, Vinci High Performance Dual Valve Springs, Hardened Pushrods, Yella Terra 1.85 Rockers, Some Hydropdipped Stuff, Strut Tower Brace, Some SS Badges, boost/vacuum gauge, fuel pressure gauge, some checkered stripes, drilled/slotted rotors, ZL1addons Stealth wickerbill, Ruxifey LED side markers

Do you think 69,000 miles is too many miles to do this to the motor? Also thanks for the advice I didnt think of the bolt pattern on the 97-98 differing from the 99-2002

Heads and Cam
My Z has 160,000 miles and I just installed a TSP package with the Torquer v.2 cam, 5.3L Stage 2.5 heads and couldn't be happier.

Not going to try and guess. It doesn't really come alive until 3000 rpm, but then look out. I am waiting on a new radiator and a/c coolant lines, then I am going to go to Thunder Racing for a tune. Also, the valvetrain is louder, I do have some ticking.
I think I am going to check to o-ring on the pickup tube this weekend and replace with a new one. Didn't realize until after I had it back together that I should have replaced it.
I will post up some numbers after the tune. Hopefully, I can get it done next week.
